2016.06.30 Hebe day by day Album Press Conference
On the afternoon of June 30th, Hebe held the press conference for her 4th solo album – day by day. The conference which kick-started at 2.30pm, was according to Hebe, unusual of her usual days, because this is the time she usually wakes up. To appear at the press conference at 2.30pm, she had to get up earlier at 10am to get ready and all set to meet the press. Host and good friend Mickey Huang quipped, “This is your unusual day as Hebe but your usual day as a celebrity, to get all dressed up and meet the media.”
The colorful Slovakian setting for the afternoon’s event was specially chosen to look similar to Hebe’s 4th album’s concept art, which was directed by famed Slovakian photographer, Mária Švarbová. Hebe shared that it was an amazing experience working with Mária, a very talented young individual who injected a new stream of creativity into her album. She also got to learn about Slovakia, a place where she would have otherwise not known. Also revealed at the press conference, Hebe collaborated with a young Korean music video director to film one of her main hits and separately with Japanese director Daisuke Shimada for another music video. Both music videos were filmed overseas and she was excitedly sharing that the music video will definitely be something to look forth to.
Taking a drastically different path from fellow Mando music industry players, the album day by day will only release digitally on 8th July. For collectors of the physical album, they will have to do so via pre-orders which will stop on 7th July. According to Hebe, she foudn out from the record company, HIM, that there is also a pre-order quantity limit imposed as the company will not be producing physical copies exceeding a certain figure. Based on reports from fans in Taiwan, some CD stores have stopped taking on pre-orders as their quota has been maxed as an outlet.
Sharing on the thoughts behind the album concept – day by day – Hebe hoped for everyone to cherish every single day, regardless of how mundane or normal it may be, because life is full of surprising twists and turns. Prompted by host Mickey Huang to recollect her journey as a solo singer, Hebe began recounting the themes and rationale behind each of her solo releases. Starting off this path with To Hebe, the debut album was a simple solo piece dedicated to herself, to remind herself of certain things she must not forget and to share with the world who she is inside. My Love, her second release, was about things she cared and loved about, her relationships with people around her and about all sorts of love that existed in the world. In her third album, Insignificance, she moved on to share about her thoughts of an individual’s relationship with the world, a single person albeit seemingly insignificant in comparison to the vast world, yet in truth every being and every detail is what that makes up and ultimately changes the world. So her third and last released album, was a lot of introspective thoughts and talk between herself and the world. Whilst preparing for her 4th album, Hebe felt that it was timely to reflect upon simple things in life, to get back to basics, to treasure every moment and every single day we live through, and thus the concept – day by day.
Despite the 2 year long hiatus from her last album, Hebe shared that at times she was so busy and caught up preparing for her album or concerts that she was double-doubling up jobs, taking on 4 different roles. She also insisted on certain elements she wanted to achieve for this album, resulting in the massive delay of the album, which was originally scheduled for release last December. She assured the media and fans that the wait is definitely worthwhile as she is personally very satisfied with the outcome.
The media was treated with a 3 minute compilation teaser of Hebe’s entire album, revealing snippets and the titles of all 10 songs. With one of the song named, Soulmate, she was quizzed as to what was the song about and who was her Soulmate? To which she joked, “now you’ve asked, I feel like my soul has just left my body,” before she quipped, “the lyrics prompter is my soulmate,” explaining that she will hardly survive without one when she performs.
day by day (日常) will be officially released on 8th July 2016.
