2015.08.25 Hebe at Our Times Celebratory Press Conference

Taiwan movie Our Times exceeded 1.3million box office sales on the first opening week and held a celebratory press conference to announce the great news. As singer of the film’s theme song, Hebe was invited by the producer to join the movie cast in the celebrations. The press conference turned into a mini fan meeting of sorts, as the young casts took turns to request for photos with Hebe. Lead actress Vivan Sung Yun Hua, exclaimed that seeing Hebe was the most important thing and best gift for her as the movie marks its great box office reception. Sung revealed she had collected newspaper articles of S.H.E in her younger days and never dreamt of the day where Hebe will actually watch her film.

During the media interview, Hebe revealed that her high school boyfriend was really similar to Xu Tai Yu. She also shared that many of those who watched the film began contacting their past friends or lovers, something she felt was the charm of the movie. Reporters then asked if she will contact her ex-boyfriend, Hebe quipped, “Sis is not interested in old flames at the moment!”

Emcee: Hello Hebe! So beautiful! Wow Hebe, you are…

H: Hi everyone, afternoon all!

Emcee: Afternoon to you, Hebe can be said to be our movie’s lucky star. You guys say she’s too slim, yes?  From the side view, later they will take a group shot. Director, you are looking good too.

Emcee: Hebe, the movies for which you sing the theme song have all exceeded a million box office ticket sales,you are truly a lucky star. Do you have something to share with us?

H: I think Taiwan’s creative industries, be it the movies or music, all types of genre and form, whether they are more commerical or artistic, I truly want to support it. Because I’m from Taiwan and I want to support all things good. So I am very honoured to have received the invitation from Director Chen Yu-Shan to bring this luck to everyone and be able to sing the theme song of Our Times.

Emcee: The song, Simple Happiness, is really nice, seriously.

H: It’s not bad, haha!

Emcee: After singing the song and watching the film Our Times, it should have brought back some memories, did it?

H: I find the charm in this movie, personally, much stronger than that of my song. Because before recording this song, I read the lyrics, knew a bit about the overarching storyline of this movie, imagined the scenario of the lyrics and went into the recording studio to sing this song. Having completed the recording, I then watched the film, the feelings were much clearer and immense, even the memories from my younger days surfaced completely. So I felt that I really wanted to enter the recording studio and re-record the song all over again!

Emcee: Really?

H: Yes!

Emcee: And in the movie, the director’s idol was Andy Lau. Back then did you chase after celebrities or did you have any idols?

H: Actually several songs and soundtracks in the movie did strike a chord amongst those of us from that era, umm, yeah.

Emcee: That era.

H: I have dug a hole for myself!

Emcee: Yes, yes. You’re still young, it’s ok.

H: So in the movie, the soundtracks used, be it those by Grasshopper, which was when I was in kindergarten, and Andy Lau’s, which similarly was during my kindergarten days. And those from my primary school days like Eric Suen.

Emcee: Oh! ‘It’s great knowing you~’ (Song by Eric Suen)

H: Yeah, I did chase after Eric Suen. Later when I was older I liked Takuya Kimura, who recently came to Taiwan. So it happened to be the period when I was watching the film that Takuya came, so the excitement in my heart was really high.

Emcee: It called on your younger self right?

H: Yes! It felt like, the scenes in the movie, for example, collecting the idol’s cards and the likes, the childish things which female students did back then, I really did do them too.

Emcee: Haha, it was all done when you were in kindergarten and primary school right?

H: When I was very, very, very young.

Emcee: You sure mature early, Hebe! Alright, in the film we have two types of guys, Wang Da Lu (as Xu Tai Yu) and Li Yu Xi, between these two types, which will you prefer?

H: I will not deny that I, Xu Tai Yu is really, a big bowl, a big cup of tea of mine.

Emcee: Really?

H: Yes!

Emcee: The character in the film, Xu Tai Yu, is your cup of tea?

H: Yes, because I think that guys who are a little rebellious are really, my cup of tea.

Emcee: Ok, so we..

H: It’s also everyone’s type.

Emcee: Can we have the honour to get Xu Tai Yu to come onstage to have a photo with you?

H: Absolutely!

Emcee: Let’s welcome Wang Da Lu. You are really lucky and happy!

H: Is it, is it him or is it me who has an advantage taking this photo? Alright, hope I don’t get bashed by Wang Da Lu’s fans out on the streets.

Emcee: Hebe has collaborated previously with Director Chen in television idol drama. In the future, will you look forward to working with her again on the big screen?

H: -Sighs-

Emcee: Why did you sigh?

H: I think it is really obvious this time! The Director invited me to sing, not to act, so I must know my limits. Haha!

Emcee: It’s okay.

H: I’m more suited to just producing vocals. But I really find movies tough, because having seen the original storyline and seeing the whole cast and all these young actors having performed so well, so I feel that, having acted in television before, I know, one must know their limits, so that’s why I chose to release solo albums. Having said that, I think films are still worth working hard for, but I will really need to spend much time and efforts to try and, find a way.

Emcee: You must have confidence.

H: To try and find ways to enter.

Emcee: The Director definitely can hone new actors, there is definitely no problem. And the producer can certainly send you into the million dollar box office sales.

H: Hope so.

Emcee: We look forward to a possible Our Times 2 or a boys version of Our Times.
