2014.05.21 Hebe at Zhong Yuan Campus Concert
Hebe performed at yet another campus concert on 21st May, this time round at Chung Yuan Christian University (中原大學).
Waking up in shock due to a morning earthquake in Taiwan, then a shocking news in the afternoon on the metro slashing incident, followed through with a rainy day from Taipei to Taoyuan, Hebe seems affected and distracted in her performance. Despite that, there were still some great moments.

1. 終身大事 (Most Important Thing In Life)
The guitar takes a much more obvious precedence in this song this time round, quite a nice touch actually.
2. 你快樂未必我快樂 (Your Happiness Doesn’t Equate To Mine)
The arrangement this time is less rock and a tad more folk imo.
Before singing this song, Hebe mentions that the fun thing about singing live is the ability to do some variations or changes. Great to know she is enjoying this and knowing how much more releasing an album offers.
3. 矛盾 (Contradiction / Contradicting)
The music arrangement has also taken on a slighter slower tempo then eventually builds up further down the song.
I’m not sure if Hebe was not used to the re-arrangement, but the A parts, it felt like she was rushing and coming off too strong in some parts. I enjoyed the melody and instrumentals though.
4. 無常 (Fickle / Inconstancy)
This is by far, my personal fave of her performance for the night.
Perhaps in part, due to the Taiwan metro incident that happened earlier that day (which Hebe read about in the afternoon).
In case you were wondering, a Taiwanese university student slashed civilians in a metro (or subway) with a long knife, leaving 4 dead and 22 others injured. Hebe mentioned about the shocking news during the start of the concert, whilst thanking the audiences present, along with the music that soothes her and makes her feel somewhat better, as if the world is still quite normal.
5. 愛著愛著就永遠 (Forever Love / Love On And It’s Forever)
6. 你就不要想起我 (You Better Not Think About Me / Don’t You Think Of Me)
7. 寂寞寂寞就好 (I’m Fine Alone)

8. Talking 1
Hebe greets the audience and asked if they were drenched in the rain, as it was pouring before the concert started.
She then asked if everyone is now dry and warm, fuelled by their enthusiasm and passion, which the audience happily answered along. Reminding everyone to get a hot shower after they get home, she shared about the rain she saw on her way to the campus, from Taipei to Taoyuan (she asked if where she’s at is Taoyuan, hahas) and is thankful that the rain turned lighter.
She thanks the students (and the music) and her mood feels pretty good being on stage, explaining that she wasn’t at a great energy level at the start of the day and there was the scary news she read about in the afternoon (on the metro incident). She goes on to introduce about her line-up for the day, comprising mainly of songs from her latest album.
9. Talking 2
Hebe asked if the audience heard her album before and if they enjoyed the music re-arrangement she has done for the night’s performance. She explains that this (variation) is the joy of singing live. As the audience was shouting quite a lot, Hebe quipped that she did not expect university students were that passionate. When she realised the students were mainly in their final year (Year Four), she was surprised because they all look so young. Someone shouted she looks young too, she thanked the person and was quite happy. Then she shared with everyone she spotted a beauty who shouted they (the girl and her friends) were Year Ones.
Before going on the next song, Hebe confesses that her wireless transmitter dropped because her pocket has a hole.
10. Talking 3
Hebe shares about the song 矛盾 (Contradicting), which she says is a feeling/emotion that has constantly accompanied her. She feels the older we get, the longer or deeper we step into the society, the more we are socialized to fit in, the stronger the feeling of contradiction. This is because we realise many things we imagine, believe or hold on to are very different when we face the reality or after experiencing certain things, thus we find it hard to accept or contradictory. Hebe said, those in Year Fours will know when they step into the society. As for the freshmen Year Ones to those in Year Threes, they can continue to live in their dreams slightly, continuing (the simpler life) in the varsity world, they will be able to experience the feeling of contradiction when they leave school.
She then leads into the next song 愛著愛這就永遠 (Love On And It’s Forever), saying it is suitable for those who fall out of love life in varsity, hoping everyone will not break up but added that it is impossible.
11. Talking 4
Hebe shares on the song 愛著愛這就永遠 (Love On And It’s Forever), that although it sounds sad, it is still a song with a tinge of optimism, reminding people to still have hope on a lasting love despite previous failures, hurt, suspicions.
Attempting to bridge the next song, she said, “At this quiet moment, I’m going to sing an even more boring song and hopefully everyone is able to withstand it. But this song is quite nice, I hope all of you will enjoy it — 無常 (Inconstancy)”.
Thanks for sharing and explaining Hebe’s talking parts! 🙂
I really like that Hebe does some changes when singing live and it’s nice to know she enjoys these music rearrangements. And speaking of live singing, do you know if HIM is ever gonna release a Live DVD of Hebe’s mini concert tour for Insignificance? It’s been a while, I would have thought that HIM would release it by now 😛
You’re most welcome!
I enjoy her music rearrangements very much too. In fact, quite a few years back, I wrote to her once hoping she can be like Eason Chen, where releasing an album is all the more about singing them live differently almost every time than just completing the work itself. So am very glad to know she’s enjoying it.
HIM has no news about it yet, but they do have the tendency to hold on to footage for a long time before they decide to release anything. Hopefully it gets released (in part or in full, the Taipei session) before 2014 ends.
