Hebe’s renditions of English Songs
Came across a random user who was requesting for some English song covers done by Hebe.
And so, I decided to just share this list here as well.
It is not a complete list as of now, I will update again when I get the time to and indicate on the title.
1. Hourglass
Original by Mindy Gledhill
Covered on 2011.12.03 / 04 – Hebe’s <To My Love> Concert Tours

This version is from 2011.12.04, Taipei concert
This has to be my all time favourite. Not just because it was nicely done, but it was also so warm, a side she rarely shows or should I say, is felt by the general public.
I have always found her to be a very warm person (not that she always shows it or is obvious to everyone). Perhaps it’s her looks and her character that makes most shy away from her or feel distant. In this song, you will find the warmth she holds within and the ‘motherly’ feel (oops) from her.
She shared on the concert that the reason she sang this was partly because it reminded her of the childhood times and that she wanted to let everyone know the child within themselves needs a little warmth every now and then.
2. Lonely
Original by Yael Naim
Covered on 2011.12.03 / 04 – Hebe’s <To My Love> Concert Tours

This song is lingering, it pricks, it makes you sad, it really feels so…lonely.
I loved Yael Naim’s version and Hebe’s rendition though similar, has something more enchanting that holds for me.
It made me wonder about herself, how she must have felt when she faces the four walls of her house in Taipei at the end of a day’s work?
In fact, when she sang the song, she said that if you feel lonely, it’s alright, I am with you through this song.
3. Die Alone
Original by Ingrid Michaelson
Covered on 2010.10.08 / 09 / 10 – Hebe’s <To Hebe> Concert Tours

I usually didn’t quite associate Hebe’s voice with rock songs, particularly those which requires hitting higher notes most of the time.
But this is one of my personal faves for a rock from her.
Ingrid Michaelson has a great song and voice, so Hebe finds her way around to sing rock, something she always wanted to do.
Truth be told, her live versions for rock songs are actually pleasing to my ears, much more than the recorded versions or studio versions.
Perhaps the audio post production did a bit too much of a cleanup that it shaves off the ‘power’ and punch in her voice?
4. I Kissed A Girl
Original by Katy Perry
Covered on 2010.10.08 / 09 / 10 – Hebe’s <To Hebe> Concert Tours

This is familiar enough for most to know.
The only difference I felt was her playfulness showed quite a bit in this.
5. Come Together
Original by The Beatles
Covered on 2010.10.08 / 09 / 10 – Hebe’s <To Hebe> Concert Tours & 2011.10.09 Rainbow Music Festival

Hebe is a great Beatles fan. Come Together was performed very often, as it is part of her set list in her concert tours.
She got better with the pronunciation and the song altogether as she sang more often.
And so, I chose the later version.
6. Yesterday
Original by The Beatles
Covered on 2011.10.07 – Hebe on <GTV 100% Entertainment>, 2011.10.09 – Hebe’s <My Love> Taipei Autograph Session & 2011.10.09 Rainbow Music Festival

Another Beatles cover.
Yesterday is my preferred song from her for a Beatles cover.
Again, I chose a later performance of the song ’cause she just got better.
7. Falling Slowly (Duet with Anthony Neely)
Original by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova

Covered on 2011.01.15 – Hebe’s <To Hebe> Concert Tours Beijing Stop
The original version always stuck with me more, cause it had the sparks that obviously, Hebe and Anthony lacked.
Nonetheless, it is a nice cover from her, quite a refreshing one in fact.
8. If You Want Me (Duet with Ella Chen)
Original by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova

Covered on 2010.03.30 – Hebe’s Birthday concert
This came as a surprise.
I didn’t expect her to perform this song, especially during her earlier days (her first solo performance, to be exact).
Ella backed her up with some good harmonizing and vocals.
Though I wonder, what story does she hold within to deliver the emotions of this song?
9. How Deep is Your Love (Duet with Oliva Ong)
Original by Bee Gees
Covered on 2011.01.15 – Hebe’s <To Hebe> Concert Tours Singapore Stop

Olivia has great vocals and so does Hebe,.
Their rendition of the classic love song is soothing and enjoyable.
It’s a pity though that the vocals didn’t gel up better, or perhaps I expected a bit too much?
